MADFINGER Games is a studio that most gamers associate with mobile games. So it was surprising when it was announced that the company was working on an FPS called Gray Zone Warfare, which would be aimed not at mobile devices, but at computers. Now this shooter has appeared in early access and has become a hit. The following lines will tell you whether it is authorized.

Beyond forming your own expeditions, there’s no shortage of missions in Gray Zone Warfare.

Grey Zone Warfare is one of those challenging games. However, it is definitely not DayZ, where you run around the landscape and have to create your own stories. Fortunately, nothing like that. This FPS gives you clearly defined objectives, so you can immerse yourself or with a group in a game world full of potential for your own stories and different tasks. The actual processing of orders here is not at all difficult. In fact, it feels traditional, so you basically open, collect garbage or bring something to the base camp in your backpack. The concept is functional, so I would not say that I was ever bored on this side. There was always something to do.

The missions are designed so that the player slowly discovers the game world that Grey Zone Warfare has to offer, and it is not a small space to explore. In fact, like other representatives of the genre, it gives you a giant map that you can wander around on your own or with the help of helicopters, with which you can reach a lot. All you have to do is find the given positions and there will often be a point where you can go to the next time in the bowels of the aircraft. The cities, villages and abandoned farms themselves are mostly points teeming with enemies.

In short, you won’t find many AI friends here, so you’ll have to be on your toes at all times. In this regard, Grey Zone Warfare plays very differently, assuming you’re going into battle not with a group of friends, but alone. I’ve tested both formats and I have to say that when I was wandering around the map alone, the game was much harder for me because it simply didn’t forgive mistakes, and the pressure from the AI during such expeditions was often unbearable, including due to the fact that quality can be traded for quantity within the opponents.

In this case, the enemy circle consists of opponents with different equipment, whose equipment often determines where you are in the game world when the battle begins. Some natives have only a bulletproof vest, an uncomfortable school bag, an AKM and a bandana, which does not really protect against shells. But, as it turns out, in addition to these homeless people, there are also those to whom the studio has assigned better equipment, and sometimes even a special role in certain tasks.

If you happen to eliminate these “elites”, you will have to think about the fact that the one of you who has this task must deliver the last blow, because otherwise the execution will not count for him, despite his presence in the party. , which I did not really like, this idea has been recycled in more than one MMO. In terms of the overall impression, one elimination for the whole group would have looked more realistic. However, in general, Gray Zone Warfare bets on acceptable realism. In fact, this is one of the basic factors of this work, although I think it is not as extreme as, for example, in DayZ. However, sometimes a shell can kill you very unexpectedly, which I really like here.

The creators’ efforts to give players the best experience possible are reflected in the behavior of weapons and how your character reacts to injuries, lack of food, dehydration, or lack of blood, which can lead to a coma from which you will never recover. up, at least in the single-player format. Unfortunately, Gray Zone Warfare shares with DayZ not only the desire for realistic processing, but also the way optimization is carried out, the functioning of certain factors, and the general release in early access. The game is not working very well right now. There are problems with the servers, and there is no shortage of bugs. In short, the footage shows that it still needs a lot of love, which perhaps was not given to it due to the slightly rushed release. However, I believe that changes will happen in this regard.

The creators of Grey Zone Warfare have managed to create something extraordinary

War in the Gray Zone is one of those revelations. A few months ago, no one expected much from this game, and now it is one of the most popular games on Steam. At least for me, I would say that this position is deserved, despite the questionable technical side. This is because it is a very strict first-person shooter that does not correspond to the player for a moment and rather aims to handle as realistically as possible without crossing the line where the gameplay becomes frustrating.

Of course, there are the drawbacks of pre-release access that I described earlier. However, I personally believe that the developers will be able to fine-tune this exciting shooter in a visually very interesting environment, so that at the end of development we will have a much more customized experience than DayZ offered us upon release.

FPS Grey Zone Warfare is available in Early Access on PC via the Steam game client, where it will be available from April 30, 2024.
