In 2023, Valorant’s character roster consists of 21 options, and most of them do a great job. Some Agents are most effective with their best cards, while others are versatile. Coincidentally, the few versatile players in a Riot FPS game are Duelists. “Secondary classes” are fixed for certain maps and settings, or for those who are happy with the game’s support. However, Killjoy is the first support to break that mold as Valorant’s most versatile guard.
I started Valorant in Project: A as a sage. And after playing around with a few agents, I’m still stuck with Platinum. It took me a long time to realize that the remedy for my remote ailments was to wear round yellow glasses. Killjoy is one of the most underrated agents in Valorant. Sure, Jett is more likely to play music video-worthy roles, but Killjoy is the true unsung hero.
Killjoy Is Valorant’s Sleeper Hit Who Deserves Credit
Sage is still relevant, as is Cypher. The former became less viable after minor nerfs, while the latter remains a situational option despite a complete overhaul. The last Guardian, Chamber, was unable to survive the nerves and largely fell into darkness. Therefore, Killjoy is the only agent that is not hampered by all the nerfs and buffs. It’s like his kit is immune to the meta change. This Guardian is a wizard in the hands of beginners and professionals on all maps.
Valorant had plenty of flare-and-dash Operators, but their toolsets were inconsistent: Chamber and Jett were two of the most popular meta-shake Operators. They’re great for adding flavor to your playing, but they’re hard to use all the time.
Instead, Killjoy stays by my side through my hardest days. He may not get much featured content, but Hilarious Sentinel helped me keep the winning streak going. On good days, I can play aggressive when Turret is behind me. On the days when my lens isn’t working, Killjoy does a great job of blocking the site. All I have to do is take advantage of the destroyed enemy turret with so much love for me.
I don’t necessarily trust Killjoy for his Nanoswarm, but they are a game changer when used correctly. Putting Cutie Cutters into stealth mode can really increase your odds of winning 1v1. The meta after the plant may have existed in Project:A, but Killjoy was the one who defined and perfected it.
Comparing Ultimate Killjoy to the rest of Valorant’s Operators should convince doubters why she’s the absolute best. He can clear each sharp turn for eight points, clearing the area for an attack. On defense, Killjoy can buy as long as it takes to activate rotations. The way his ultimate is effective on literally every map is almost unfair.
Now, Breach and K/O may cause you trouble, but they won’t confuse savvy Killjoy players who understand the utility’s tactical placement. She is the salvation of those with big brains and terrible goals.
Killjoy is a statistical nightmare for his enemies.
Maybe I am prejudiced against Killjoy because she helped me get out of platinum. But to be fair, the stats also back him up as a pretty solid pick. Killjoy has consistently been the top pick on the Valorant leaderboard for the past six months. With a 26% pick rate and sky-high win stats, Killjoy is the queen of the rankings.
According to Tracker.gg, Killjoy is the best Guardian in the current Valorant meta. An S-tier operator is the best choice for top-tier scopes and those who rely on utility, and it’s no surprise. I mean, is there any other agent that can kick all enemies out of a large area forever? I will wait.
As it turns out, it’s popular not just in ratings; Killjoy is just as good in professional Valorant. In Valorant Champions Tour 2023: Americas League, Killjoy had a 100% pick rate on Haven, Icebox, and Fracture and an average of 80% across all maps, which is higher than any other Operator, yes, even Jett.
These stats prove that while everyone is focused on Jett and making games go viral, smart gamers have quietly cracked the code to permanent rank boosts.
