Hot on the heels of announcing a new delay for its upcoming pirate game, Ubisoft has unveiled new Skull and Bones gameplay footage that provides the most detailed look yet at how open-world multiplayer is juxtaposed with… narrative elements. .

Since it was first announced in 2017, Skull and Bones has changed directions several times, moving from what was essentially an arcade simulation of a multiplayer pirate ship that had you glued to the helm, to a more open world game in the form free where multiplayer works. as a backdrop for player-led missions.

In the new footage, community manager Alexis Cretton and screenwriter Joel Janiss stop at a pirate outpost to learn about power struggles in the region off the coast of Africa. Following suit, they arrive at a settlement where the “looting” begins and the pair fire their guns first at the defensive tower and then at a pair of King’s Company frigates, which arrive to drive them off.

Cretton says that when he played the production version, it was easy for him to get distracted during the mission; there’s going to be a lot of cool stuff along the way, and Janiss says the narrative team is “happy you got lost in our world.” . ” ”

The pair find their next clue in a shipwreck on a nearby island. The footage shows both naval combat and scouting on foot, as you can see in the video above. Most of the action takes place aboard your ships, but you can also explore outposts that double as social hubs and places to find new leads and contracts.

This story, according to Janiss, is an alternate history of the golden age of piracy, and while the facts do not match the real world story, the narrative touches on themes of colonialism, looting of resources, and exploitation of the natives. peoples by the Western powers, whose nascent economy was ‘addicted’ to the new resources they found abroad.

We don’t know when the new Skull and Bones release date will be, but Ubisoft says it just needs “a little more” time to finish work on the game, which is set to go live on March 4.
