The Sorcerer Rogier is one of the friendliest NPCs in the Ring of the Ancients, the true heir to the Big Hat Witches. Roger can teach the player magic and give sage advice. It connects to a longer in-game quest, but mostly its questline isn’t too involved. Here’s how to complete it.
You will first come across Roger’s Chapel, northwest of Stormveil Castle. If you head north from the Grace Rampart Tower area and the birds throw explosive barrels at you, you’ll be on your way to the rooftops. Following them you will come to a circular hole in the first tower. Go downstairs to see Roger at the altar.
Speak his dialogue and he’ll teach you a lesson in magic. The next time you call him, he’ll be in the round table on the balcony. You can talk to him there and learn more about D. Roger’s story. When you defeat Godfrey and say so, Roger drops Rapier.
Return to Grace’s Liftside Chamber site at Stormveil Castle with a panel discussion with Roger. Enter the yard, then take a sharp right and back twice, where you can see the chest the item is on. Approach the edge and you will see a ledge where you can drop down. Keep scrolling down and you’ll eventually find yourself in a boss battle with the root monster.
Kill the Root Beast and continue through the area until you see a giant rotten face with bloodstains next to it. Look at the bloodstain to see memories of Roger cutting the coin.
Go back to Roger and ask about his face. He’ll tell you it’s Godwin Gold, the first demigod killed on the night of the Black Blades.
Travel to Fiasco and be amazed. You will most likely have new settings for the dialog; Check them all, but as far as black knife marks go, they’re essential to Roger Quest. The above will tell you where to get the Mark of the Blade – it’s in the Black Blade Catacombs, northeast of Lake Lurnia. To get there, go to the Ruined Labyrinth Tomb, then follow the path east and north to the end.
The Black Blade Catacombs are one of the most deceptive men in the Ring of Eldan. You can basically finish normally, but you’re having trouble finding a living mage on skeletons in a room. This is the same room as the traps that attract the giant individuals from the ceiling.
First trick for this stick: once on the ground, you have to jump in the middle of the giant blade, then climb to the left on a raised platform. Jump in and you can kill mages and jump from the hips.
Eventually you will come to what you see as a dead end. It’s actually a crossroads. To your right, you’ll be able to enter a locked room that you’ve probably seen before if you miss the elevator trick for the first time. This will allow you to unlock Dundon’s main boss.
Alternatively, you can tap the wall at the bottom of the room to reveal the hidden exit. This passage leads him into combat with a black bladed killer who lost his death with a black knife mark.
Fingerprint Roger and he’ll tell you to find Rani. North of Lake Lurnia, three sisters await the territory. You will get there by completing the Carian Royal Manor area. When you reach the area, look for the tallest west tower of the three. (It’s just beyond the dragon.)
Go inside and talk to the top of Ran Tower. He’s not very interested in talking, so you’ll have to come back to Roger anyway. He will tell you to join Rani’s service as a vassal. Another trip to Ranni will get you there, start the hotline.
When you talk to Roger later, he will warn you that he is causing a deep sleep. If you relax in Grace’s place at the round table, she will.
After a while – what caused this is still unknown – he will disappear, leaving behind his bear, the Spellblade set he is wearing, and a letter explaining the existence of D’s younger brother and where to find him.
As far as we know, it is full of rosé. More can be found, but there doesn’t seem to be a way to preserve it at the moment.
