Now that we’re more than halfway through the MLB season, it’s time to take a look at some of the themed teams in MLB The Show 22. We’ve got some 99 so far, so let’s get those themed teams started.

The team will change as new players come out. But right now it’s the best team.

Before we begin, let’s review a few guidelines we’ll be using:

  1. At least two current active players
  2. To qualify for the team, a player must have at least one 50-game match or future star card with the team.
  3. A player’s card may come from a different color if at any time they played for a particular themed color.
  4. The team will consist of eight position players and three shooters, a starter and two lifeguards.
  5. No secondary stations, only primary stations

For our first Thematic Team article, we’ll be looking at the best possible Thematic Team for the New York Yankees.

Receiver – Best Now Jose Trevino #39

For a hunter, we could go with Trevino or 91 Jorge Posada in general, but we go with Trevino. Trevino has better stats and defense than Posada. Our receiver, Jose Trevino, is in the top 90 overall.

First Baseman – 1985 All-Star Don Mattingly #23

Mattingly was our choice for the first phase. The other option was April POTM Anthony Rizzo, but Mattingly has better contact and defensive stats. Our first jump is 94th overall for 1985 All-Star Don Mattingly.

Second goaltender – 2019 All-Star DJ LeMahieu #36

DJ LeMahieu was an obvious choice for the second leg. No other player could beat his total. LeMahieu has great overall stats with a slightly lower power stat, but that’s okay. For the second stage, we choose 90 DJ All-Star 2019 LeMahieu.

Third goalkeeper – August 2019 POTM Gio Ursella #29

Like Lemahieu, there was no box close to Urshela in general. Urshela has great contact with both sides and also has above average strength. 90 overall August 2019 POTM Gio Urschella, our Yankees third baseman.

Shortstop – Future Stars Oswald Peraza #91

Now is where the cast really starts to shine. 95 Future Stars Oswald Peraza is our obvious pick. He has great stats, he can take the field and run.

Left Field – All-Star MVP Giancarlo Stanton #27

It was our easiest choice for the whole team because Giancarlo Stanton was the only 99. He can strike for contact and run the ball. MVP All-Star Stanton was an obvious choice in left field.

Midfielder – All Star Aaron Judge #99

At center is current American League MVP Aaron Judge. The referee’s contact stats are a bit low, but their defense and power numbers are skyrocketing. 97 All-Star Aaron Judge, our choice to play in midfield.

Right Field – July 2022 POTM Matt Carpenter #24

Our latest hit is the latest map added to MLB The Show. Matt Carpenter took over in July 2022, and his card shows exactly that. There are over 100 stats in each hit category. He has a below average throw, but that’s okay, he can still catch the fly ball. It was actually the toughest choice between Carpenter and Babe Ruth, but we went with the July ’97 POTM Carpenter for our team.

Starting pitcher – Signed by Mike Mussina #35

Mike Mussina was another big favorite for the job. The next best card splits a total of nine points. Musina won’t knock you out, but it cuts through dough with ease.

Relief Pitcher – Second Half 2017 Chad Green

Chad Green is the first of our two assistants on the Yankees theme team. A total of 94 cards in the second half of 2017 is a big relief.

Closing pitcher – 1981 All-Star Rich “Goose” Gossage

And now our last card. 1981 All-Star Goose Gossage. Batt has played on many teams, but is best known for his time in New York. His All-Star card is great and he’s sure to knock out teams in the ninth half.
