The upcoming Windows 11 update could help speed up your gaming PC or laptop. Well, actually that’s Microsoft’s way of apologizing for slowing down the installation, as the patch fixes one of the operating system’s oldest performance issues.
The first major update to Windows 11 contains several improvements and fixes. However, it also focuses on the quirks of the operating system’s shell framework host, the tool responsible for managing things like the Start menu and taskbar (via the latest version of Windows). Problems with the sihost.exe process can cause the game’s CPU usage to increase, which naturally slows down system performance.
The Windows 11 shell infrastructure issue has plagued gaming laptops and PCs for quite some time, and the upcoming KB5016700 update should fix the issue. Windows Insiders will be among the first to test the patch, followed by a broader stable rollout in the coming months.
It’s hard to decide if Microsoft deserves credit for this particular performance fix, because it’s a bit like thanking a bull for sticking glasses in a Chinese store. However, the solution is certainly welcome, especially if you are trying to improve the frame rate on your Windows 11 machine.
The latest operating system from Microsoft always looks up to date and Windows 11 22H2 will help improve the overall experience. Outstanding issues aside, the platform already offers gaming PC perks like auto HDR and fast Directstorage API, the latter pairing well with the best SSDs for gaming options.
If you like convenience and comfort, you may be hesitant to try a new operating system because you might soon lose outdated tools like Control Panel. However, it seems that nothing really dies when it comes to Microsoft, as even Internet Explorer lurks in Windows 11 despite being sent to a nursing home in June.
