Developers from Amazon Games studio announced amazing news. discontinuation of support for MMORPG New World. At the same time, according to Steam, the game is currently regularly played by tens of thousands of players. In addition, the release of the tenth season, called Nighthaven, increased interest in the game at the beginning of this month. Amazon itself has invested heavily in the game over the years, with estimates exceeding $200 million.

Despite the assumptions mentioned above, this ambitious project, originally released in 2021, has paid for a new wave of layoffs. This affected the entire Amazon company, including its gaming division. There is talk that about 14,000 employees will lose their jobswhich represents the biggest wave of layoffs since 2022, when Amazon laid off 27,000 people.

For New World, this means ceasing any work on future seasons and any content additions that the game will no longer see. Players can expect a maximum of a couple of patch packs as part of the upcoming additional support. However, according to a recent statement from studio representatives, the servers must remain active at least within the next year. Despite this, it is clear that the game’s journey is gradually coming to an end.

The players themselves at the Amazon announcement they responded with a survey bombardment on Steam, through which the companies are accused of imagining the cutting of a long-popular game with a relatively large fan community.

At the moment, a rather large question mark hangs over other gaming projects from Amazon, which may also be negatively affected by the current situation. In this context it is mentioned, for example, MMO from the Lord of the Rings universe.which Amazon announced a partnership with Embracer in 2023.
