I am one of Fromsoftware fans who did not want Nightreign. I like the creation of this Japanese studio, first of all, for their masterful construction of beautiful worlds and the mysteries of the surrounding stories, which I can carefully explore and open at my pace. Thus, the game of “racing” for some time does not correspond to what I prefer in their games. When I imagine that the time spent in the development of this game can be invested in the next Erdtree DLC Caliber Erdtree or even a new game for one, I am sad. However, after 70 hours spent with the full version of Nightreign, I cannot deny that the unique magic from Software worked again.

Magic from Software

One of the things that I underestimated in the announcement of Nightreign was the power of a unique style, such as selected dishes, creates my games, from the beautiful aesthetics of everything (characters, the environment, monster) to unusual music, complex games, full of secret functions or content, or fragments that successfully create the impression on much more and deeper. All these qualities are present in Nightreign, the game tells its own story (an interesting connection with the original Elden Ring) with traditionally pronounced dialogues and several films, with individual games with their own historical missions and sequences.

Although the story occurs in parallel reality, separated from the original world, Elden Ring Morld and, in addition, mixes many monsters from the Dark Souls series, it also contains its own knowledge and does all this with seriousness and care that we are accustomed to. For a fan of their work, it is almost impossible to appear in this aspect of the game. He will go around the numbers in RounTable, holding the base and talking to them, read all the fragments of the Bonus text in the local encyclopedia and try to understand where and why fatal rain actually appeared, or who was the first night member. If the world and the aesthetics of Elden Ring are specifically sitting, this game will give you a decent dose of new content in this impressive audiovisual style.

These qualities are present in Nightreign.

The game for each character will gradually unlock written pages in her diary, which also leads to various bonus tasks on missions or even reproducible memories from their past in a separate single player. The completion of the character’s story will open a unique image for her and other games, so motivation is also practical. Moreover, the stories of these characters are often properly melancholy and full of tragic creatures, so you can easily love them and wish them to find retribution or remission for their past. Although Nightreign is not a strictly plot game, this aspect should not be underestimated, and fans of the unique narrative style of Fromsoftware, probably stuck the claws under the skin as effectively as their past games.

This is not for Zoomers

In my impression of the game of online testing of February, I said that the theory is that it will be a game focused on a rather new audience. The audience of young players with less patience who are accustomed to rapid advancement and fun without a deeper overtone, such as Fortnite. But, in the end, the reality is completely different, because it is a game that requires so much that I do not believe in its popularity in the type of players. In some important relationships, the game is even more complicated than the original Ring of Elden, since you start each passage from scratch, and it is not possible to “overcome” the higher level of the figure (15 – the maximum that you often do not even achieve).

Moreover, the bosses are extremely cruel, at their “second stages” they often begin to destroy the entire battlefield with common attacks or move the environment at such a speed that the player has a problem at all a review of his position, not to mention successful evasions from his attacks. I am completely sure that some of them will not “not fit” some of them again, so the journalists again faced the most difficult version of this game, and at a time when they could not help them with the assembled tactics or equipment. In this regard, I would like to thank my colleagues from Lair and Vortex for their cooperation during the review. If, after the defeat of the first “educational” night class, you say that it was not so difficult, believe me, others will be much more cruel. In addition, the battle from the first and second nights will sometimes make you uncomfortable that your opponents will appear behind the arena (surrounded by deadly rain), but where they can continue to attack happily.

Finally, at home there will be traditional fans of Soulsovky with their susceptibility to masochism.

Despite the fact that you do not have the opportunity to alleviate the content of the game, “spilling”, the level of your character (reset at the beginning of each gaming wheel) plays an important role, but rather against you: it can be easy to happen that you will be created, which will show you significantly using the interface (red color of your level). To achieve a sufficient level for promoting the game, you should not only skillfully play not only without death, but also be able to choose the right stop order in your journey through the game environment. If you arrive at the final boss with a low level of your character, it will be so cruel to difficult as a Healthbar – and survive much longer when the game almost begins to resemble the Monster Hunter series. In general, I think that the game is much more difficult and more difficult to learn than the young players Fortnite can accept. Paradoxically, in the case of this game, traditional fans of souls will be at home with their susceptibility to masochism.

Depth and diversity

One of my main problems after the February testing of the game was a potential insufficient depth and variety of the game. Especially the fact that your expeditions always occur on the same map, the point of which is also to learn how to remember the situation of all key things. Therefore, I am glad to report that the game received in this regard is pleasantly surprised. Although you will always play on one map, its content is again placed and mixed for each round. In addition, gradually defeating the bosses, you will unlock the variations of the maps of “shifting lands”, where a significant part of the card will fill a completely new place with a unique appearance, enemies and mechanics. Some of them can completely change the gameplay.

The random deployment of content on the map is the main factor, because each final boss uses a certain element (fire, electricity, etc.), so you need to find a hostile camp or fortress containing the weapon of the element. The presence of such weapons in your hand at the end of the third day for a duel with a night class is absolutely necessary, since usually it can interrupt its strongest attacks or even expand significant debuffs. But not only the locations and production change, but also specific bosses and minibosse, which will make you study each of them and quickly decide on which order you will encounter them. What is even worse, you can also invade your doubling, which will have the strength, abilities and equipment of your own characters. Moreover, the game for individual heroes is so different that you will always study several things again and in the other way.

Roguelike Trinceence

In games where you start every round from scratch again, in recent years, players often offered some form of constant and improvement in order to be able to successfully pass the game, even if it is simply not “convenient”. Here, this function takes the form of the so -called “relics”, which are magic stones with bonuses for your character that you receive after each round (even if you cannot finish it and win the fight against the final boss). These relics remain forever, and you can “put” them on your character, unlocking additional bonuses for the next game with him.

The problem is that the vast majority of these objects and bonuses are desperately useless, things such as “+1 to force” will not significantly help your character to cope with the next round. At the later stages of the game, you unlock several rare relics that already influence (for example, modifying the unique capabilities of your character, adding a specific element to your starting weapon or a significant bonus for your team), but only ten are desperately disappointed and unhappy. will. Constant promotion in modern Roguelike games is to be a cruttle for less experienced players, but here this aspect is desperately inappropriate about the complexity of the game and bosses.

Start or end

Fromsoftware, obviously, plunged into the genre that is not their own, and some aspects of the game look several units. In addition to the disappointing form of the permanent procedure, this includes, for example, the fact that you can play the game in one (even in autonomous mode) or three, the game even adjusts the strength of enemies, respectively, but there is no mode for two players. Of course, you can start random compilation in two matches and connect someone, but the game does not support voice communication, and the Pinging system is not quite complicated. Among other things, it is harmful to complicated management, as well as for many other functions, it is necessary to use a combination of several buttons on the controller, which is not so fast, and it happens that you click on what you did not want.

I hope the game will not be too much Successful.

In other words, although many aspects of the game (mainly its aesthetic quality) are proudly breathing the manuscript of the legendary studio, in some respects in this new experiment there is not enough firmness and perfectionism that we expect from them. It remains to be hoped that although this game should not be a classic name for live service (the developers wanted to add “less and cheaper, but a full package), some aspects are still balanced and thin settings are also balanced. (The Duskbloods) will be another “arena”, but after the experience of Nigreign, I think this, of course, will cost games for fans of their traditional games. too much Successful and from Software will return to the fact that we like most of their work.

Verdict

This is not the game that would like the traditional fans of Software. But its qualities have so much in common with the previous favorite headlines of the studio that if you give her a chance, you will probably give in to her, especially if Elden Ring, in particular, your favorite game will fall in love with her world and style. Experimenting with a new genre manifests itself in several untouched aspects, which, perhaps, developers, at least additionally balanced and grind. However, now everything works surprisingly.
