The long-awaited arrival of the RTX 50 graphics cards has finally taken place. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang announced the new lineup at the CES conference, including the first models, prices, release dates and other interesting details. DLSS technology was also introduced, which we will talk about in a separate article.
Blackwell Architecture
First, let’s look at the architecture itself that bears the Blackwell label. Nvidia promises a new generation of RT and Tensor cores with 2x faster RT performance and 3x faster AI performance compared to Lovelace. Blackwell is also introducing new generations of video decoders and encoders, but we don’t know the details yet. At the same time, the new graphics provide faster GDDR7 memory speeds and therefore higher bandwidth.

But let’s move on to the models themselves, because Nvidia presented 4 at CES, which make up the initial line of desktop computers.
PTX 5090

From the detailed specifications, by the way, we learn that the 5090 will get three NVENC encoders instead of two like the 4090. The 5080 will keep two, and the 5070 Ti will also get them. The 5090 and 5080 also feature dual NVDEC decoders.
In terms of performance, there are some graphs on Nvidia’s site, but due to the use of Multi Frame Gen and the lack of FPS numbers, they are misleading, so we’ll have to wait for independent testing.
Release date
RTX 5090 and 5080 coming soon January 30. The next two models will be released in February, the exact date is still unknown.
