Layoffs aren’t over in the video game world. Another publisher in a narrow circle – Bandai Namco. Due to concerns, the Japanese company had to order an investigation. As part of this, she had to evaluate which games would be interesting and which would not achieve sales targets. They were canceled or their development was stopped.
According to Bloomberg’s anonymous sources, he was the project, created in collaboration with Nintendo, was also canceled and games based on popular TV series such as the One Piece and Naruto animated series, as well as famous comic books.
The most interesting thing is that Bandai Namco does not release directly. Instead, it sends affected employees to the so-called “oidasi beya.” These are special isolated rooms where workers do not have specific tasks. This way the company will force them to leave voluntarily. This is believed to be a fairly common practice in Japan, despite strict labor laws. Bandai Namco expects to have affected 200 of its 1,300 employees since April. Almost 100 of them were forced to resign.
In an official statement, Bandai Namco confirmed the cancellation of the games and the fact that some employees will have to wait before being assigned to other projects. But he refuses “oidasi bey”.
Bandai Namco is a publisher and developer of a number of games. Among others, it brought to market Elden Ring and Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon from FromSoftware, Sand Land, Tekken 8, Park Beyond, One Piece Odyssey, The Dark Pictures Anthology, Pac-Man games, Tales of Arise, Twin Mirron or Little nightmares.
Among the announced games in the pipeline are Unknown 9: Awakening, Synduality: Echo of Ada, Freedom Wars Remastered, Tales of Graces f Remastered, Little Nightmares III, Fate/EXTRA Record and Bleach: Rebirth of Souls.
