What was supposed to be an idyllic weekend at their new friends’ country home turned out to be an unimaginable nightmare. From the masters of horror at Blumhouse comes a thriller that will leave you wide awake.
They met on holiday in Italy. The Daltons, an ordinary London family, and the charismatic doctor Paddy (James McAvoy) with his wife and son. It took only a few holidays together, and both families settled in so much that soon after returning, the Daltons are already rushing to the village to take up an invitation to spend an unforgettable weekend on Paddy’s huge farm in the countryside, far from civilization. With the Daltons (Mackenzie Davis and Scoot McNairy) going through a relationship crisis, they hope that a little adventure can “kick” them in the right direction. But everything goes downhill from the moment you arrive. The promised paradise on Earth is far from perfect, and the initially charming Paddy turns out to be a freak whose behavior is far from normal. That’s why the Daltons decide to end their stay with their “friends” early. However, little does she know what exactly Paddy will say, when and if they will leave at all.
Like in the movie, for example Torn in half and in Do not call upon evil James McAvoy literally relished the opportunity to play a monster with many conflicting emotions and views. “I wanted the audience to be under Paddy’s spell as much as they were under Dalton’s spell,” says director James Watkins. Paddy has undeniable charisma, he’s a smart guy, he doesn’t take life too seriously and he doesn’t make a fool of himself. These qualities carry over to his home environment, only instead of being admired, they inspire horror and terror. The film Do not call upon evil It is a remake of the 2022 Scandinavian thriller of the same name.
