With licensed music in video games it’s tricky because It is not always possible to obtain a permanent license to use a popular song. We’ve seen a number of games in the past where certain tracks were removed many years after release because the publisher or developers simply didn’t want to renew expiring licenses. We’ve also had cases where a given title was pulled from sale entirely, though usually only temporarily. This includes action thrillers. Alan Wake 2010, which temporarily disappeared from digital stores in 2018.
Microsoft, which published Alan Wake in its original version for the Xbox 360, and the developers from the Finnish studio Remedy finally managed to solve the licensing problems, thanks to which the first adventure of the charismatic writer was sold again. But now the problems are back. And this time, the creators from Remedy, who bought all the rights to publish the Alan Wake brand from Microsoft in 2019, will solve them a little differently.
