Speculation about the new generation of Xbox and Microsoft’s next steps continues unabated. Quite the contrary. The well-known Windows Central portal confirms earlier unconfirmed information that An American company is preparing a console-PC hybrid. The new Xbox will run on a full Windows operating system, which will be complemented by an interface adapted to TVs and players accustomed to the classic console environment.
Sources close to editor Jesus Corden say the device will run Windows with an interface called Xbox Full Screen Modewhich resembles the current Xbox Series X/S environment. This way, once enabled, players will be immediately thrown into the familiar Xbox ecosystem, but can switch to full Windows in one step. There, access will open not only to applications such as Steam, Battle.net, GOG or the Epic Games Store.but also to ordinary programs – for example Microsoft Office. The issue is PlayStation games on Steam and Epic, but if the Xbox really had Windows, then, apparently, nothing would prevent this.
This is how Microsoft wants to offer the best of both worlds: the simplicity of a console and the freedom of a computer. Those who want to stay only in the Xbox environment can – the system should behave like a classic console, where it is not necessary to log into Windows at all.
According to Corden’s sources, Microsoft is targeting maximum compatibility. The new Xbox is expected to support games from the original Xbox, Xbox 360 and Xbox One, as well as games from the Series X/S generation. In addition, the system must process modern technologies such as automatic super resolution and frame generation that will improve performance and image quality even for older games.
There is one more thing about the Xbox coming closer to the PC. Microsoft is reportedly set to eliminate all fees for online games. If the information is confirmed, players will soon be able to play multiplayer games without the need for a Game Pass subscription – Microsoft introduced paid multiplayer for the first generation Xbox, and four years later Sony followed it with the PlayStation 3, with Nintendo also introducing its alternative on Switch.
