The expansion for Elden Ring, Shadow of the Erdtree, released last week, received very warm reviews from journalists, as evidenced by, for example, rating 95% on aggregator Metacritic, making this add-on the highest rated DLC in history.
However, a look at user reviews on Steam shows that some players don’t share the same enthusiasm. Shadow of the Erdtree is now on Steam. has a mixed rating of 62%, thus ending up in the mixed column. Some of the criticism revolves around partial technical shortcomings and optimization. However, negative reviews often mention the overall difficulty, especially the boss battles. Even players who have spent a significant amount of time in the main game are clearly freaking out.
In addition to a certain jump in difficulty, which the developers from the FromSoftware studio pointed out even before the release, the culprit is primarily new pumping system, which is based on the collection of so-called Scadutree fragments. Thanks to this system, the DLC offers enough challenges even for players who enter it with a really strong character. However, from the reviews it is clear that a significant percentage of players are not yet accustomed to this new system and its rules. After all, some reviews on Steam clearly show disappointment after unsuccessful encounters with selected opponents.
Both Elden Ring and the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion are available on PC (Steam), as well as PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S. You can find more detailed information about the mentioned supplement in our review.
