A month ago, Xbox fans were unpleasantly surprised by the announcement that Tango Gameworks, Arkane Austin, Roundhouse Games and Alpha Dog Studios were closing. In particular, players did not understand the closure of the Japanese studio that created the very popular rhythm action game Hi-Fi Rush, and demanded an explanation from Phil Spencer. The head of Microsoft’s gaming division has finally commented on this issue.

As part of this dismissal, Fr. about 1,900 employees were supposed to go to work. Spencer commented on the issue to US server IGN, where he emphasized that he has to make difficult decisions to lead a long-term company.

“The closure of any team is difficult for the individual and the team,” Spencer said this at the outset, noting that he had not commented on the matter previously for good reason: his focus was on these teams and their personnel.

“Obviously this decision is very painful for them, and I want to make sure that through severance packages and other measures we do the right thing for individual team members. It’s not about my PR, it’s not about Xbox PR. It’s about these teams.” he added.

“At the end of the day, I kept saying over and over again that we have to run a sustainable and growing company, and that means sometimes I have to make difficult decisions that, frankly, I don’t like, but those are decisions that someone have to do”.

At the end of the interview, Spencer promised that they would move forward and invest in great gaming experiences and presentations like the Xbox Games Showcase 2024.
