Originally a Swedish company Avalanche Studios behind the Mad Max game or the Just Cause series, closed a couple of its teams in North American cities NY And Montreal. “This is an extremely difficult decision, but we believe it is necessary to ensure a stable and sustainable future for the company,” the company said in a brief statement on its website. The studio does not describe the reasons more specifically.

About 50 people will lose their jobs, which is almost 9% of the entire company. “We are now focused on supporting all Avalanche members during this challenging time. We are grateful for the invaluable contributions of those who have passed on and remain committed to creating incredible gaming experiences for our players,” the company added.

This is a special situation, especially in the case of the Montreal team. It was only created last October and was supposed to include the newly purchased studio. Monster Closet consists of veterans of Far Cry, Assassin’s Creed, Prince of Persia or Halo Wars.

Avalanche Studios still has offices in Liverpool, Malmö and Stockholm. They have only one project announced. Smuggler Title Smuggling will be released by Xbox Game Studios, but we don’t know much about the game.
