We’ve had quite a bit of speculation surrounding the Resident Evil series recently. Most of them were talking about the ninth installment, which seems to have been delayed but will be announced soon. Another topic was the (second) remake of the first part, which was reported by several, but, it must be said, unverified, insiders. In any case, the whole situation has now been clarified by the famous insider Dusk Golem on Twitter.
He first spoke about Resident Evil 9. It was Dusk Golem who hinted a few months ago that the game was being delayed internally, something he subsequently denied in early May when he revealed more details about the sequel, which had been in development for 6 years. . But now he’s backtracked (and apologized for his previous comments) and says RE9 probably won’t be announced this summer. It is said that the game has indeed been delayed, and instead of early 2025 as he recently claimed, it will release late next year or even 2026.
As for remakes, Dusk Golem has denied two projects. The first is the already mentioned remake of the first; he called the reasoning about it, to put it mildly, nonsense. According to him, this game is not in development at all. Somewhat surprisingly, he also ruled out a remake of the fifth installment, which would have been persistently suggested after the remake of the fourth installment, and the subtitle scene practically referenced it. In any case, this project should not be in development either.
(2/4) further than this coming summer. Sorry for all this chatter, it’s my fault.
RE:1 Rumors of a remake are nonsense, as far as I know RE:1 is not currently in any form of development at all.
RE:5 is also not actively in development right now. it was funny to see this

On the other hand, two more remakes are said to be in the works. The first is an episode subtitled “Code: Veronica,” which fans have been waiting for a remake for many years. This is a game that is not officially the main work and does not have a number, but de facto functions as a full-fledged fourth part. It serves as a conclusion of sorts to the Umbrella saga, starring sibling duo Claire and Chris Redfield. The game was originally released in 2000 on the Dreamcast console, but later received several ports through the enhanced version of Code: Veronica X.
The second remake will presumably be Resident Evil Zero. A prequel to the first part, which takes place one day before the original game and tells about the fate of the Bravo team of the STARS squad. The main role is played by young medic Rebecca Chambers and prisoner Billy Cohen. The game was released in the fall of 2002, just a few months after the release of the remake of the first game. This is the last “classic” part with a static camera and tank controls.
Zero is one of the worst entries in the series, some of the criticisms were the lack of an item box, which made the gameplay very unpleasant, or the inconsistency of the plot of the first part. Also, unlike RE1 or RE2, here you don’t choose characters, but play as both, switching between them. So it will be interesting to see how Capcom handles the remake.
Dusk Golem doesn’t even give approximate release dates for any of the remakes, so it’s unclear whether they could arrive before RE9. But he says he heard about these projects more than a year ago.
(4/4) Resident Evil Zero and Code Veronica remake currently in development.
I’ve talked to a lot of others behind the scenes about this at this point, this is something I heard over a year ago, I think it’s going to come out whether I said it or not and that’s it.
