If your graphics suffer, then during the game Senua Saga Hellblade 2 you should be very pleased. Ninja Theory studio managed to skillfully use the capabilities of Unreal Engine 5 and bring to life the unique adventures of a Celtic warrior in a dark and dangerous Iceland.
The developers place a big emphasis on realistic processing. Because of this, they sacrifice frame rate and resolution. We’ve known for a week now that the game will only have one graphics mode on Xbox Series X/S. limited to 30 frames per second. We are just learning permission.
Resolutions range from 1296p to 1440p on Xbox Series X. However, due to black bars, actual values are lower. Digital Foundry’s Oliver MacKenzie did a detailed analysis and the black bars at the top and bottom reveal a screen resolution of 2304 x 964 pixels in the first case and 2560 x 1070 pixels in the second.
The black stripes have a task not only film effect, but also to reduce the load on equipment. On the other hand, there are no frame rate dips. Experts from the Digital Foundry team note impressive graphics with extremely realistic rendering of the protagonist’s face thanks to Metahuman technology from Epic Games. Skin with a soft shine, bright eyes, perfect teeth – every detail must be stunning and belongs to the absolute limit of the game. In addition, there is incredibly good animation, convincing emotion thanks to the acting, wonderful depth of field, detailed textures of the ground and stones, sharp and precise shadows and other effects.
“Hellblade 2 is a step forward not only for the series, but for the entire gaming industry, as it shows how far the visual side of interactive entertainment can go.” says Digital Foundry. From this point of view, on consoles they are limited to 30 frames. somewhat justified and as for the high level of visual detail, this should be a reasonable decision. There are criticisms of the rather aggressive post-processing, which creates a “soft”, cinematic image that could even be described as a bit washed out.
This could be the game that changes the way we perceive the graphical capabilities of video games. The question is how Senua’s Saga Hellblade 2 will perform on the Xbox Series S, the less powerful current-gen console. And I personally wonder what the system requirements for the PC will be. It is clear that high graphical detail and higher frame rates will require a modern build.
The game will be released on May 21 this year and will also be available on Game Pass.
