Forget about the dusty router sitting somewhere in the corner of the house among the cables. Mesh elements can also look beautiful and fit into the interior. This is where the TP-Link Archer Air R5 and Archer Air E5 pair excel. The duo, unrecognizable at first glance, will cover your entire home with a signal. In this case, you do not have to worry about integrating both devices into the furniture. Their appearance does not attract too much attention.
TP-Link has decided to completely redesign what most people hide in the corner of their room with a couple of new products. The Internet router presented by the Archer Air series looks like a small, inconspicuous cake with a white matte finish. Its dimensions and especially its thickness of 10.8 mm resemble a tablet.
You simply connect the Archer Air R5 to a power source via USB-C and to a modem via one of two Ethernet ports. They are also minimalistic on the bottom and easy to unfold. The remaining settings are made through the web interface or the Tether application, which is available free of charge for Android and iOS in Czech. Setup is very simple, and the router provides status information in addition to the application thanks to the LED on the front panel.
You can then easily place the router almost anywhere to ensure perfect signal coverage. On the back panel you will find pre-installed adhesive strips, thanks to which the router can be easily attached to the wall. Or you can use a plastic wall holder.
Thanks to its unobtrusive design, this compact and elegant router can be connected in a prominent place in the living room, for example, and thus enjoy maximum coverage and faster speeds where you move frequently.
Despite its compact size, Archer Air R5 has a wide range of technologies and can provide high connection speeds. It is based on modern Wi-Fi 6 in the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands. The maximum speed reaches 574 Mbps in the 2.4 GHz band and 2402 Mbps in the 5 GHz band. Correct signal distribution is ensured thanks to the proper placement of antennas directly in the device and a number of algorithms that determine, for example, the location of your devices.
Low latency ensures that you can even play the latest online games or connect to a work video call over Wi-Fi without any hesitation. You can also easily set up a VPN server that provides, for example, secure access to your local network from outside.
There’s no shortage of pure security features, including HomeShield, which includes parental controls, scanning your home network for threats and checking connection quality.
If you have a large apartment or family home, you will certainly appreciate the compatibility with EasyMesh. The EasyMesh standard allows you to create a stable Wi-Fi network with one name using multiple routers or a router and repeater. It can easily cover multiple rooms as well as entire floors. Simply connect one main router, in this case the Archer Air R5, and a satellite device. For example, Archer Air E5, which, at least in design, is a copy of the R5 router. In this case, it is an expander with EasyMesh support.
You connect the Archer Air E5 with a single USB-C power cable to a location where you already have a slightly weaker signal or speed. The expander amplifies this signal and, thanks to EasyMesh, does not create another particularly noticeable network. This way, you won’t have to worry about switching between separate Wi-Fi networks when moving from the extender to your main router. Again, you can enjoy speeds of up to 2402 Mbps on the 5 GHz band or up to 3 Gbps on a combination of both bands.
The advantage of EasyMesh is practicality. The EasyMesh standard is supported not only by the Archer Air R5 and E5, but also by other TP-Link devices. If you have one, just buy an Archer Air E5 extender. The result is a home network with excellent coverage, a stable signal and high speeds at a reasonable price. Say goodbye to dropped connections and ugly, big Wi-Fi routers.
