The video game industry in China will begin to grow again this year after a year-long hiatus. This follows from the analysis of the Niko Partners group. If last year turnover fell by 2.5%, then this year the market should grow. Growth of 5.2% year on year. Total Niko estimates the amount $47.76 billion. The number of Chinese players is also expected to increase by 1.63% to 710.3 million.
Analysts attribute the successful year for the Chinese gaming market to several factors. The most striking thing is the return of the authorities to the previous pace of issuing gambling licenses. This year has already passed 844 titles, which already exceeds the figures for 2022 and 2021. Gamers are also spending more on older games, and the availability of unlicensed games on PC and consoles remains relatively good. Positive factors are balanced by a weak currency and macroeconomic situation.
Since the easing of pandemic measures, 53% of esports events have taken place physically or hybridly in mainland China, attracting approximately 400 million people.
Niko Partners also predicts more distant figures for 2027. They estimate turnover at $56.7 billion, representing annual growth of 4.5%. There should be 734.6 million gamers in China, with an annual growth rate of 1%.
