Is Assassin’s Creed Nexus better than Mirage? – NATIVE AMERICAN

Virtual reality is slowly but surely getting to the point where major studios see the potential in bigger and better games. We are slowly but surely moving away from simple experiences of a few hours and technology demos based on the unique features offered by this technology. And it’s nice to see this, for example, in the recently published review of Assassin’s Creed Nexus. A surprisingly big adventure, especially by VR standards., which contains three storylines in three historical periods. And this is even in a partially open world and, to top it all off, on the mobile, self-sufficient Quest from Meta. I won’t bore you for too long – this is not a perfect game and it has more than enough shortcomings. However, I can also say with confidence that it is significantly better than I expected. And to be honest, it’s probably even better than this year’s Mirage… Yes, the bar is not very high, but let’s explain.

But before I get ahead of myself, let’s go back to the mention that the game offers three storylines. This is only partially true. Like the great works of the series, there is a contemporary story that ties everything together. Specifically, we find ourselves in the role of an unnamed hacker hired by modern assassins to sabotage Abstergo’s attempts to obtain something that would tip the scales of war in their favor. As a double agent, in Absterge we gradually get to three key characters from the history of the series. Except for Kassandra in Greece. because we will be able to take on this role again in many years Connor from Assassin’s Creed 3 and Ezio himself returns to the great enthusiasm of all the veterans..

With all three heroes, not only different, but also completely new adventures await us. I’ll say right away, don’t expect anything special. These are what I would rather call side stories that don’t significantly contradict established canon. Don’t even expect that the events themselves will be of any significant interest to you. In my opinion, the main culprit is the fact that the game kind of throws you into the thick of things without much context and is actually afraid to come up with something that has its own personality. Ezio’s arc takes place several years after the events of Brotherhood., when he returns to his sister’s more or less still dilapidated villa in Monteriggioni. But as you probably guessed, something goes wrong again, and another enemy appears for you to go after. There’s nothing more to it – in short, another revenge of Ezio. On the other hand, Cassandra’s story takes place approximately twenty years after the events of The Odyssey.but, as you will soon learn, he still resolves the contradictions between Sparta and Athens and politics there. And Connor? Its story takes place right in the middle of Assassin’s Creed 3.so it probably won’t surprise you that he’s eager for help from local revolutionaries and he has absolutely no other agenda in the market.

In terms of plot, Nexus does not bring anything fundamental, but rather relies on nostalgia. And he really succeeds. While it’s least noticeable in Cassandra’s case due to the time span, it’s this opportunity to experience something new with old characters – and Ezio in particular – that is where Nexus first starts to excel, at least for a while . The feeling of hearing Roger Craig Smith again is indescribable.

The whole title is more than I expected. An excellent demonstration of what this means in practice can be seen at the very beginning. While the first mission keeps you on your toes and is linear enough to introduce you to everything, the second one forces you back to Monteriggioni. Your task is to enter the villa and meet Claudia. But before you do that, you have the entire interior of the walls completely exposed. You can run and climb anywhere, collect collectibles, unlock items in the encyclopedia, or perhaps take on running challenges. One in particular: I didn’t have a dry eye from playing Ezio’s Family. And I don’t care if the song is overused. After more than a decade, it is finally being used in the right context. So leave it to me… But to keep things straight, in addition to everything I’ve mentioned, you can also sync to specific viewing platforms, as is traditional for the series.

Without boring you for too long, this is unfortunately almost all, what awaits you in the game in terms of side activities, with the exception of shooting tests. Personally, I think there is potential for even more interesting things. Instead of dozens of collectibles, I personally would have preferred more specific tasks to improve synchronization, as was previously the case with large parts. After a few hours, you will notice that the game starts to slow down a bit in terms of gameplay. The developers do a few things to balance this out, we’ll get to that later. But soon there comes a moment when you realize that it doesn’t really matter where you are and who you play for; you keep doing the same thing. All three heroes have a hidden blade. (yes, even Cassandra), all three also have melee and ranged weapons, clubs, throwing knives and smoke bombs.. In other words, they are completely indistinguishable from each other, which I think is a great shame. Instead of Cassandra being able to use her Spear of Leonidas to use crazy abilities and try them out in virtual reality, Ezio commands Brotherhood units and Connor can engage in ship battles… So each of the characters behaves like leather and nothing more .

With each of them you will run and jump across the roofs, on which you will deal with guards who are always designed in the same way. With each of them you will fight the same types of enemies. With each of them you will solve the same types of missions. It is in this regard that stagnation quickly sets in, when you seriously want the developers to go one step further, because it is already obvious where to go. But, unfortunately, this step will never happen.
