Mac Waltersone of the key authors of the series Mass effect, is definitely not going to retire. After leaving BioWare, he founded a new studio. Untold Worldswhere he will work with experienced developers to create great adventure games with an emphasis on story and interesting worlds.
Worlds Untold Studio will introduce new brands with depth and capabilities that cannot be contained in one game or even one medium. It looks like Walters and his team’s ideas may come from outside the world of video games.
The first game is an action-adventure game set in the near future in a breathtaking world full of mystery and exploration. “We create incredibly meaningful stories that we believe are best told and experienced through play. We start by creating worlds everyone dreams of exploring, and then we put players at the center of the most unforgettable adventures.” Walters said.
Worlds Untold is based in Vancouver and is supported by the Chinese company NetEase Games. According to Walter, the company must share the vision and passion for using cutting-edge technology to create the best new games.
There are other veterans in Worlds Untold. For example, a sound engineer Shotaro Tojima, who has over two decades of experience creating sound for games such as Metal Gear Solid and Halo; production manager Elisabeth Lehtonen, who has worked on series such as Dragon Age, The Sims and Angry Birds; head of art department Ramil Sunga, who has worked on the Mass Effect Andromeda, Anthem and Dragon Age series during his twenty-year career; and head of technology department Ben GoldsteinWith almost two decades of experience, he has led projects such as Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, For Honor, and most recently worked at Tesla and Cruise, creating their simulation platforms.
NetEase Games is gradually growing. The Chinese firm is recruiting veterans of the video game industry and creating new studios with them. These include NetEase Montreal (led by Watch Dogs creator Jonathan Morin), T-Minus Zero (led by Rich Vogel, executive producer of Star Wars Galaxies), Bad Brain Games (Sean Crook, producer of Watch Dogs: Legion), Jar of Sparks. (Paul Crocker, lead designer on the Batman Arkham trilogy) and Anchor Point Studios (Paul Ehret, lead designer on Control). It also owns Quantic Dream and Skybox Labs (the team helped with Halo and Minecraft).
