In his article for Bloomberg magazine, the famous journalist Jason Schreier described the conditions in which the just released Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 was created. Schreier claims that while the development of the old parts of the series always took about three years, then Modern Warfare 3 was created in less than a year and a half. It was the lack of development time that was to significantly impact the quality of the game, led by the critically panned single-player campaign.

Another negative element of the rushed development had to be the conditions in the Sledgehammer Games studio itself. The article mentions working on weekends and at night, which could not but affect the atmosphere in the studio. Developers receive additional shortened development cycle, full of overtime they had already taken place during the development of Call of Duty: Vanguard, after the completion of which the management had to promise them that a similar situation would not happen again.

Schreier also mentions that there was a Modern Warfare 3. originally planned as an expansion for last year’s Modern Warfare 2 and was made into a “full” premium game only after another installment that was originally due to be released this year was delayed. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 releases today on PC (Steam) and PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S consoles.
