According to the presentation “The Past and Future of the RE Engine”, various technologies will be added to the REX Engine gradually. RERuntime, REDox and REAssetStream are mentioned. This is probably what Capcom decided to do in order to maintain high compatibility. The goal is to have tools that can be customized to suit the needs of each game. Some are inclined to believe that Capcom will want to license the REX Engine to other companies.

The RE Engine does more than just drive individual parts Resident Evil Seriesbut also, for example, a fighter Street Fighter 6shooter Exoprimal or Monster Hunter: Uprising. They will also be used in the upcoming role-playing game. Dragon’s Dogma 2 and a mysterious project Pragmatics. Currently we don’t know if they will run on the REX engine.

Either way, Capcom is going a little against the grain. Many development teams and publishers are abandoning their technology and relying on Unreal engine 5 from Epic Games. Among them, for example, the Polish CD Projekt RED with the new “The Witcher” and the sequel Cyberpunk 2077. Some Microsoft studios have also switched to Unreal Engine 5.
