Yoshitaka Tamaki, illustrator and screenwriter of the Shining series, dies

The Japanese illustrator and game developer died of lung cancer in July this year at the age of 55. Yoshitaka Tamaki. This news was shared by his family. He is best known for defining the visual style of the role-playing game series. Shiningbut he also contributed to a number of other games as a designer and writer.

From the age of eighteen, Tamaki worked in Enixjoined the team at the age of twenty-two Climax Entertainment. In the meantime, he managed to write an illustrated book for children and externally contributed to the character designs of the Dragon Quest series, commissioned by Tekuji Takahashi.

At Climax, he signed primarily on the first two installments of the Shining RPG series, Dungeon Crawler. Shining in the dark and tactical name Shining Power. While in the studio, he continued to work on games such as Landstalker, Lady Stalker And Time Stalkersworked on the Shining series with other teams that took over its management.

“First of all, I have a passion for animals. Additionally, during the creation of Shining Force, I was tasked with drawing many different fantasy characters, such as bird people, centaurs, and so on. I also had another problem: I couldn’t draw a man on a horse. It was quite a tedious job until I realized that all I could do was draw hybrid characters, half-human and half-animal.” He said Tamaki in 2003 for the French magazine AnimeLand.
