Sony has invested a billion dollars in Epic Games

Sony Group continues to invest in epic games. The creators of Fortnite received another round of funding from the Japanese company billion US dollars. He got another billion from Epo from the Lego Group through the holding and investment company KIRKBI. All this money will go to development metaversion. Previously, Sony gave Epic $450 million.

Kenichiro Yoshida, President and CEO of Sony Group Corporation, explained that “As a creative entertainment company, we’re excited to be able to invest in Epic and deepen our relationship in the meta, a space where users and creators share their time.”

“We also believe that Epic’s expertise, including its powerful game engine, combined with Sony technologies, will accelerate our various efforts, such as developing new digital experiences for digital sports fans and our virtual production initiatives.”

CEO Søren Thorup Sørensen of KIRKBI stated: “Part of our investments are focused on trends that we believe will affect the world in the future. This investment will accelerate our commitment to the world of digital gaming.”

Tim Sweeney, CEO of Epic Games added that “As we build the future of entertainment and gaming, we need partners who share our vision. We found this in Sony and KIRKBI, and this investment will accelerate our work to build the meta and create spaces where players can have fun with their friends.”

Recall that last week Epic Games and Lego announced a long-term partnership aimed at making the digital space safe for young gamers.

After recent investment, Epic Games has value $31.5 billion. This is almost the same as that of Electronic Arts (34.6 billion) and half that of Activision Blizzard (62.5 billion).
