Lawyers Take-Two interactiveparent company Rockstar games, they care about respecting copyrights and often crack down on interesting community modifications. Now, in defense of the publisher’s biggest brand, they have suspended the opening of two pop-up restaurants in San Diego based on the fast food chains from Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Later they appeared in other parts of the series, including GTA 5.
Smokin’ J’s BBQ received a call to shut down shortly before reopening to welcome customers to Comic-Con restaurants. The restaurants were planned to be opened by the same people who surprised diners last year with a similar fake fast food restaurant in the same location. As it turns out, Take-Two Interactive and Rockstar Games were also surprised. Companies learned about the opening of the booth only after it was all over.
Burger Shot and Cluckin’ Bell Restaurants should have opened this week. The company behind them said they would not open Burger Shot. But Cluckin’ Bell is still set to open next weekend. It will be just a parody called “Don’t Cackle”. So most likely it will be a parody of a parody restaurant… Cluckin’ Bell in GTA: San Andreas is a parody of KFC and Taco Bell, and Burger Shot is a parody of Burger King.
If you missed last year’s Cluckin’ Bell, the restaurant and staff were actually dressed in GTA: San Andreas colors. There was a thematic menu and the main character Trevor from GTA 5 with a warning. This year, the company wanted to offer more GTA-inspired dishes on the menu, including eCola and Orange-O-Tang. The offer was also to include limited edition toy cars, yoga mats and uniforms.
