Since yesterday, attention has returned to Europe again. In the United States, Microsoft scored a major victory over the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). A San Francisco court denied a motion to temporarily block the acquisition of Activision Blizzard. The one that was released in June will expire on Saturday at 9:00 AM PT (7/14 at 11:59 PM PT). By that time, Microsoft will be able to solve the problems of the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA).

We already reported that yesterday CMA officials agreed to Microsoft and Activision’s proposal to withdraw the lawsuit and reopen negotiations on terms.. At the time, Microsoft was reviewing the terms of the acquisition to resolve the issues in a manner acceptable to the CMA. The CMA, on the other hand, was ready to reconsider its decision to block the acquisition.

CNBC’s David Faber had some big news last night. According to him Microsoft and CMA agree on a small sale. The latter should remove the concerns of the regulator. What exactly is at stake remains a mystery. British authorities blocked the $68.7 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard at the end of April 2023. due to concerns about the impact on the emerging cloud gaming market. So the sale must be related to cloud gaming in the UK.

Let us recall an important detail. The agreement between Microsoft and Activision Blizzard is valid only until 07/17/2023.. Until then, Microsoft must buy the publishers of Call of Duty, Diablo, Overwatch, World of Warcraft, and StarCraft. If the deal is not completed, both companies will have to renegotiate the price and terms of the merger.

Finally, one interesting thing. On the chart you can see How big is Activision Blizzard for Microsoft’s entire gaming division. The schedule was drawn up in January 2022 when AB had 10,000 employees. There are now 17,000 of them. The second image shows what the new division of Xbox’s own studios will look like. This image should also be updated soon.
