Studio Flat Brno Ashbourne Games after more than two years since its inception, it presents its first project to the world: a historical real-time strategy game Last train home with elements of survival and crew management. In the game as the Czechoslovak legionnaires, we go on a painful homecoming through the war-torn wastelands – from Moscow to Vladivostok (Trans-Siberian Railway).
“Immerse yourself in a story inspired by real events and command a squad of Czechoslovak soldiers on their way to their homeland in an armored train through the endless snowy plains of Siberia, divided by the war between the Red and White armies” attracts a team led by Petr Kolář, who could be relied upon during development consultation with the Czechoslovak legionary community regarding historical events and narrative. He even had access to the Legion train exhibit.
Last Train Home was revealed in a trailer at the PC Gaming Show. He describes the game as an epic survival strategy game and mixes gameplay footage with the feature film in which he appears. Karl Dobry (Captain Langer) Zbyszek Humpolec (Sergeant Meizlik), Ladislav Yanchikova (sister Mayerov), Dusan Vitazek (Lieutenant Kramar) or Ladislav Pokorny (free citizen Mlynarzh).
At a recent private presentation, we learned that the footage is only for promotion of the game and will not be part of the game. Everything is created in it. in an unreal engine 4. However, Captain Langer also appears in the game as an advisor to the player. Those who are interested will get the chance to see more in the behind-the-scenes documentary, and making a smaller film is on the table.
“The school teaches little about this, but after the First World War there were Czechoslovak legionnaires who managed to control almost the entire Trans-Siberian Railway. This is what we decided to be inspired by.” Petr Kolář spoke at the presentation.
“In this regard, we decided to make a fictitious last train coming from the vicinity of Moscow, because the soldiers could not continue their journey west to return home, they had to go east through the entire Trans-Siberian Railway; about 9000 km to Vladivostok. From Vladivostok, then by boat to America and from America again to Europe, so that they could intervene in the struggle for the independence of our country.”
Traveling by train, its repair and improvement (for example, pebbles so that the soldiers do not freeze on the way) – the second part of Last Train Home, in which he also says crew and supply management. We must remember that the life of each person is important for the success of the entire crew.
The first part of the game is combat. With a small block – up to ten warriors – you will fight against a large force. “To overcome difficulties, you need to master different tactics: whether it be sneaking up, ambushes, or using various explosives. This will help you do it Pausewe call it tactical mode, where you can stop the game, assess the situation and give orders to your team.” Kolar continued. Your soldiers will gain experience both for fighting and for working on the train.
In “The Last Train Home” they two types of basic professions: combat professions and professions that maintain the train, including a cook who prepares meals for the crew. After the battle it is necessary heal the wounded and make sure everyone has a full stomach, because soldiers don’t fight well on an empty stomach, and after eating, for example, stew, they get combat bonuses.
The third pillar of the game is encyclopedia with a description of the train, vehicles, soldiers or equipment. Here you will also find information about the opponents – what abilities and skills they have, or what vehicles they can use in missions.
At the end of the game we are waiting for Great battle for Vladivostokwhich changes depending on what decisions we make along the way.
Last Train Home will be released this year for PC for 40 euros (about 950 CZK). the game will for one player only, even in this case, the campaign should offer 40 to 50 hours of gameplay. they give pleasure professional Czech dubbing, which should draw us even more into the game. According to the creators, this Czech-Slovak-Russian. Some detachments will speak Czech, others Slovak, and the enemies will call us some nasty words in Russian.
As for further support for the game (DLC) and, possibly, console versions, it all depends on how positively the game will be perceived on computers. If a large enough player base is built, the developers will be happy to continue supporting the game.
