At the PC Gaming Show event, a new game from the Brno studio Ashborne Games was presented. The title is called “The Last Train Home” and tells the story of Czechoslovak legionnaires who want to return home after the end of the First World War. However, the Russian civil war and inhospitable Siberia stand in their way, through which they will try to return to their homeland by train along the Trans-Siberian Railway. We have collected information and attached materials thanks to the press screening of the game, which was organized by the developers at the Art Cinema in Brno.

At the head of a detachment of legionnaires

Last Train Home belongs to the RTS genre with controls. The main content of individual missions is to control a small group of soldiers, who often confront a much larger number of enemies. In addition to the elimination of enemy units, the purpose of certain tasks is to extract certain raw materials or occupy the desired village, which will then allow the legionnaires to continue their journey through Siberia.

It is important to emphasize that you will always control a maximum of 10 units as a commander. Therefore, do not expect from the game the battle of large armies with a significant use of technology. Therefore, in terms of tactics, you will have to choose a fairly cautious approach with an emphasis on reconnaissance and ambushes. Success in individual missions will also affect the use of specializations of individual soldiers, from which you will build your team. In terms of gameplay, the game draws inspiration from, for example, the UFO strategy series or the Original War game.

Each of the wagons has its purpose and function.

But the main and side missions themselves are just one of the main building blocks of the game. After completing the task, you will always return to the armored train, which is important for legionnaires. In the game, it functions as a mobile base in which the aforementioned management part of the game awaits you. Each of the cars has its own purpose and function, which is necessary for the survival and proper functioning of your military unit. In the field infirmary, you will have to take care of the wounded soldiers first. But there will also be a separate wagon for cooking.

Since you will be traveling in Siberia, you definitely cannot do without sufficient heat sources. In short, your entire squad will need a lot of raw materials to survive and continue their journey. Apart from the physical needs, you will also have to take care of maintaining a high morale. To add to the worries on the road to freedom, the train itself will also require some management. Individual team members and parts of the train can be expanded and upgraded as the game progresses. In general, the management part seems to me an extremely interesting and important part of the game, which definitely should not serve as a simple filler between missions.

Long way of Siberia through historical events

The game will offer a pure single-player experience based on a 40-50 hour campaign. Captain Langer, whose face and voice was lent by actor Karel Dobry, will play a key role in the backstory of the story. Yes, you guessed it. Last Train boasts a full Czech interface and voice acting.

Ashborne Games has 50 developers working on the game.

Although the game will tell its own stories and will not strictly follow the real path of legionnaires in Russia, according to the developers, they want to keep the game historically accurate realities, which, of course, will help cooperation with the Czechoslovak legionnaire community. , which, in addition to consulting historical events, provided the authors with access to a real Legion train that travels through the Czech Republic and Slovakia as a traveling museum.

In conclusion, I would like to add that 50 developers at the Ashborne Games studio, led by Petr Kolář, are working on the game. He worked for over 10 years at Bohemia Interactive, where he led the development of games such as Arma 3 and Vigor. The game also features other veterans coming from this renowned Czech studio. The technical side, which you can judge from the attached images, is handled by Unreal Engine 4.

In terms of platforms, developers are only counting on PC (Steam). However, if the title sells well, console versions are not excluded in the future. The price was set at 40 euros. The last train home should arrive at the destination station at the end of this year. However, the exact date has not yet been set. We will bring you more information about Last Train Home in the form of our own impressions of the game, which we collected at the Game Access Developers Conference in Brno.

Thanks to the developers at Ashborne Games for providing the information and materials.
