As promised, Alan Wake 2 appeared at Summer Game Fest and recently received a new trailer (detailed breakdown here). First, Sam Lake came on stage to give background information. The sequel has two main characters: Alan Wake, who we’ll be playing as in the Dark Place, and Saga Anderson, who we’ll be playing as in real life, in the city of Bright Falls. We’ll be able to switch between characters at will, and according to Lake, there’s no “correct” order of story sequences.
This was followed by solid footage straight from the gameplay. In particular, we could see the part shortly after the start of the game where Saga walks through the woods and then reaches the shop where he encounters a monster. As in the first part, you first need to use a flashlight and “irradiate” the enemy, and then start shooting at him. At the end of the demo, we could see Saga collecting clues and it was possible to open our clue list, so investigating is definitely an important part of this game. Unfortunately, we never saw Alan’s gameplay as such.
Alan Wake 2 releases October 17th for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
