When Asus introduced its own laptop on April 1st, most gamers thought it was an April Fool’s joke. It was all the more surprising when, two days later, it turned out that this is a real devicewhich Asus plans to sell.
Portable gaming device it’s called Asus ROG Ally and the company itself calls it its first portable gaming PC. Obviously, the main competitor, whose success Asus will try to repeat with its device, will be Valve’s Steam Deck and, to a lesser extent, the Nintendo Switch.
The device will run on a modified SoC with AMD’s Zen 4 core, RDNA 3 graphics card, and Windows 11 operating system with extensions directly from Asus. This should be among the strengths of the Asus ROG Ally. 1920 x 1080 resolution, 120Hz support, 16:9 diagonal, 500 nits brightness. Steam Deck, by comparison, offers a 1280 x 800 display with a maximum support of 60Hz, a 16:10 diagonal and a maximum brightness of 400 nits.
In addition to the trailer attached above, below you can also see first impressions below from a couple of creators who received the device for testing. For example, in the video from the Dave2D channel, you can see a direct comparison with Steam Deck, in which the author points out the smaller dimensions and weight of the new product from Asus.
The question mark currently hangs over battery life, release date, availability in our market, and price itself.
