Capcom unexpectedly released a new update for the 14-year-old Resident Evil 5 on Steam today. A rundown of the changes first includes remove support for the defunct Games for Windows Live platform. Its implementation, judging by the reaction of the players, caused some technical problems and is probably the main reason for the just released update.

Second, and from a player’s point of view, the biggest novelty enable local split screen, which until now was only available on consoles. Now, for the first time, PC players can also enjoy this two-player co-op feature.

In addition to these two new products, the developers also highlighted a few minor bugs and shortcomings. Over 240 extremely positive posts on the game’s Steam discussion forums prove that despite the “slight delay”, the news has been welcomed by fans with open arms.
