It’s not every day that a publisher pulls one of their most successful games from the Play Store. But that’s exactly what Rovio does, officially uploads Rovio Classic: Angry Birds for the second time from stores for Android devices. For iOS version yet just change the name. These steps were taken due to the negative impact on the sales of other games.

Already in 2019, something similar happened with various names bearing the designation Angry Birds. Then the games were withdrawn from mobile stores, ostensibly for “testing”. Fortunately, they were returned to stores in April last year, but under the single name Rovio Classics: Angry Birds. But now we have to say goodbye to the game forever. The only place we’ll be able to play it is on iOS, but it’ll have a name. Red’s first flight.
During its existence, this brand has earned a really big name. This is a very successful game that has definitely delivered great results in its time. But the game could be bought for a smaller amount and there was no need to invest more. And since it was a good play, the players they were in no way motivated to buy other games from the same studio that are free but have a microtransaction system inside. And this is bad for overall earnings.
The official statement said:
“We have reviewed the business case for Rovio Classics: Angry Birds, and given the game’s impact on our broader portfolio of games, we have decided that Rovio Classics: Angry Birds will be removed from the Google Play Store on Thursday, February 23rd. Additionally, pending further review, the game will be renamed Red’s First Flight on the App Store.”
“Devices that the game has been downloaded to will still be playable even after it is removed from the list. We understand this is sad news for many fans and also for the team that has worked hard to make Rovio Classics: Angry Birds a reality.”
“We are extremely grateful to the Angry Birds fans who showed their love for the brand and the game from the very beginning. We hope these fans continue to bring this passion to our slingshot games like Angry Birds 2, Angry Birds Friends and Angry Birds Journey, where our daily goal is to create the best experience for players.”
Angry Birds Community Manager Sean Bucklew he also added on the official discord server: “As stated in the statement, this is having a negative impact on our other games, which we should be focusing on as a company. If these other titles do not improve and grow, the outlook for the entire company will change as well. It will be more difficult to create new things or work on new projects. It’s definitely not what you want.”
Whether other games will be popularized depends on the players and fans of the entire series.
