Nearly two years after the release of the PlayStation 5 version, the action roguelike Returnal is also getting a new look on PC. While the game is receiving high reviews (on Metacritic the PC version currently boasts an 87% rating), from the point of view of active players, the situation for Sony and developers from the Housemarque studio does not sound so optimistic. Data from Steam shows that the game at one time no more than 6691 players played.
Compared to other Sony exclusives recently on PC, this number is “only enough” for penultimate seventh place. Thus, Returnal left behind only the platformer Sackboy: A Big Adventure. For example, in terms of ratings, Days Gone, which was received more coldly, had more than 27,000 players simultaneously playing on Steam. In the list of the highest grossing games on Steam, Returnal was then placed only in the third ten.
However, one must think that the PC version of Returnal is currently facing great competition from new games, which many PC gamers might simply prefer. In addition to Hogwarts Legacy, there are, for example, the Wild Hearts role-playing game, the Atomic Heart shooter, or the Company of Heroes 3 and The Settlers: New Allies strategies. Also, compared to purely mainstream games like God of War or Marvel’s Spider-Man, Returnal is more aimed at hardcore gamers with its mechanics and difficulty.
