On Thursday, Sony announced another firmware update for the PlayStation 5 console. It is already available to beta testers and should arrive in full to all users in the coming months. It brings some interesting innovations.
One of the main and most requested is undoubtedly the Discord voice chat, which will finally allow easy communication between platforms. Just link your PSN account to your Discord account and you can call happily, you can find more detailed instructions here.
Another significant innovation is the expansion of support for Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) technology, which will also be available for 1440p display devices. However, it still needs to have an HDMI 2.1 connector, unlike the Xbox, the PlayStation still doesn’t allow FreeSync.
In addition to these two bigger features, you can look forward to things like manually uploading screenshots and videos to the PS app, easier transfer of saved positions from PS4 to PS5, or the ability to update your DualSense controller over the air. Until now, it had to be connected with a USB cable for every update.
Starting today, PS5 beta testers can try out some new features:
☑️ Join Discord Voice Chat
☑️ VRR support for 1440p
☑️ Manually uploading game snapshots to the PS app.
☑️ Easy access to PS4 save data on PS5.➡️ More: https://t.co/YiWfl19kdS pic.twitter.com/ju7Vy9RWAr
