Tomorrow, Square Enix’s new action-RPG Forspoken comes out on PC and PlayStation 5 consoles, and has recently faced a lot of criticism, mainly due to a not-so-convincing demo, and also due to the fact that many journalists were not provided with keys for review. All reviews here are purely for the PS5 version. At the time of writing the review, the PC is not available..

Forspoken is just fantastic. With all the magic, gear, great fights, bosses, and a story worthy of even the best, it’s proof that Square Enix knows exactly how to make great video games and will continue to improve at it for years to come.

Forspoken is an incredible name. Although the plot is too general, the gameplay is inventive and absolutely brilliant. This is a game that I will return to again and again, just to move and exist in a fascinating fantasy world. Forspoken is an exciting leap forward for action games and I can’t get enough of it.

After all this, Forspoken looks like a solid new IP. It has its issues, but the longer you spend in Athia, the more you’ll be pulled into its world with interesting combat and the sheer joy of traveling through expansive environments with charming abilities. Luminous Productions definitely hit the mark with this concept, just wanting to pay a little more attention to the technical condition and details. But at least Forspoken has proven its worth and potential to one day stand alongside Square Enix’s biggest brands.

The story and combat in Forspoken lags behind the movement and exploration, but thankfully the latter two make up the bulk of the experience. I completed the campaign in about 15 hours, and now I have a huge world in front of me, full of nooks and crannies that I enjoy exploring. The story didn’t stay with me for long and I often avoided combat in the open world, but I really enjoyed discovering the secrets of the world.

Open-world adventurers have plenty to dive into, and Forspoken is not without its charm, but the protagonist is often the weakest part of the game.

The character development and lore of Forspoken is disastrous, but the game makes up for it with incredible combat and exploration.

Forspoken is a fun action game where you excel best when you use great magic moves to race through the fantasy world of Atia and destroy your enemies with amazing spells. However, it lacks content, its role-playing systems are weak, and its visuals are less mature than promised. As such, Forspoken’s potential in its current state is largely untapped. For fans of the genre, this is still a decent game, although we recommend a discount or inclusion in one of the many subscription services.

The flashy battles and movements of Forspoken may be fun, but it’s not enough to make the clichéd story and bare open world interesting to explore.

It’s a shame because Forspoken’s terrible story and obnoxious protagonist pretty much ruin an otherwise decent RPG. There is a basis for something good here, but, unfortunately, this potential is not being used.

Forspoken is at its best when racing through the beautiful world of Atia, casting all sorts of spells. But the story makes the game very interesting.

Forspoken is a visually impressive game that delights in music, but boring combat, poor character art, and weak movement mechanics make it mediocre.

Forspoken was supposed to be a creative and attractive new start for Luminous Productions, but unfortunately the result is a game that is not only tasteless and underdeveloped, but has no reason to care at all. An abundance of technical flaws, bland design of the open world and, most importantly, disappointment in the form of an absolute minimum of moments that really please.
