The Nvidia RTX 4090 is a hulking beast, but you can turn the best graphics card competitor into a pocketable powerhouse using the magic of water cooling. While the custom design isn’t really designed for consumer builds, it shows just how small a GPU can be by eliminating fans and heat sinks.
Our review of the Nvidia RTX 4090 outperforms the green team’s premium GPU due to its size, but requires some weight to run at reasonable temperatures. After all, we’re talking about a card that can boost frame rates to ultra 4k settings in the latest games without breaking a sweat. However, you can kiss all that bulk goodbye with the Alphacool ES Water Block and the results are amazing.
In a recently uploaded video, Optimum Tech shows off the “World’s Smallest RTX 4090” equipped with the aforementioned water block. The plugin is only compatible with some models and the YouTuber uses a dedicated iChill Inno3D board to test it. In terms of size, the water-cooled GPU is only 210mm long, so it can fit into a fancy ITX case.
Turning the RTX 4090 into a wafer-sized monster is great, but what about thermal performance? Well, Optimum Tech says the temperatures are on par with alternatives like the MSI Suprim Liquid X, which runs like God of War while staying around 53°C. In other words, you won’t have to worry about your graphics card getting hot. and stop. it works even when dealing with demanding PS5 PC ports.
The RTX 4090 hasn’t been around that long, but the graphics card scene already offers ways to cram a giant GPU into smaller spaces. The Alphacool water block is designed with server parameters in mind, as the small footprint means more cards can fit on the rack. However, if it also helps bring small power plant builds to life, we’re all for it, even if it all sounds a bit off-putting. Additional.
