The nearly thirty-year-old award-winning System Shock game should finally see the promised remake. It should be released in March this year, developers from Nightdive Studios confirmed on Kickstarter.
Although they still haven’t announced the exact date, even March itself is welcome news for many fans. So far, they have relied on vague information from Steam, where last October the release date mysteriously changed from December 31, 2022 to March 2023. The studio has now confirmed the news, acknowledging that “this isn’t the first time they’ve announced a release date, but a lot has changed in the last few years.”
The project itself on Kickstarter, where the studio raised money for a remake of System Shock and a kind of reboot of the series, had a goal of 900 thousand dollars (more than 20 million crowns). As a result, 1,350,700 dollars were collected, that is, another 10 million crowns. The release was already talked about in December 2017. However, even after five years, the remake did not come out.
“The scale of the project has changed dramatically,” the studio admits. But he quickly adds that by partnering with publisher Prime Matter, which falls under the Plaion company, developers could better focus on fixing bugs, supporting localization or picking up details. These are “the last big steps towards releasing a game that we’re all incredibly proud of.”
It should be noted that similar positive announcements have appeared before. However, this time the developers have also added a few details about the improvements that the game should include – for example, new enemies or modifications to the Citadel. In addition to Steam, the game is also set to release on PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, and Series X/S consoles.
