Few people know that Black Ops 3 was supposed to have a really elaborate open-world campaign, but according to Jason Schreier, development was eventually abandoned and the world was left with something he didn’t like very much. It was a classic format belonging to the Call of Duty series. So the player got traditional locations. In a series of images posted by Reddit user Purpletoaster, we can see what the campaign could look like if the original idea was finally implemented.
As a result, you can see the full potential and, above all, the possibilities that the more open game world of Black Ops 3 offers. It is a pity that in the end it did not work out. We have streets, side entrances, and/or rooftops from which to take down enemies effectively. However, it cannot be said that the whole concept has gone to waste. Some of it was subsequently used by Treyarch. But the in-game economy, the building system, or the 24-hour cycle associated with changing weather have completely disappeared. So hopefully one day we’ll see a Call of Duty that manages to overcome the shadow of the series and bring something truly revolutionary.
