RDNA 3 – disappointment, release is accompanied by problems
The AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT and 7900 XTX graphics cards have finally arrived. Unfortunately, this is not a very successful launch, because RDNA 3 does not reach the performance that AMD promised, and also suffers from other problems.
We already learned about this from the feedback that came in on Monday. The average FPS of the XTX model is basically the same as that of the more expensive $200 RTX 4080, which might not sound like much at first glance. However, we must remember that AMD in its presentation promised a performance increase of more than 50% compared to the Radeon RX 6950 XT, but the card is far from it. In a Hardware Unboxed review, the card was only 36% faster on average than its immediate predecessor at 4K resolution.
In addition, in some titles, the profit is much less and, apparently, the GPU is facing problems with drivers. For example, we are talking about Forza Horizon 5, where RDNA 2 worked very well, but RDNA 3 offers only a minimal performance boost. To this, of course, we must add a big minus in the performance of RT, which is much worse than that of competitors, and at the same time, the absence of some functions.
Even more disappointing is the 7900 XT, which is only $100 cheaper but significantly worse in performance, even outperforming the RTX 3090 Ti in 4K. This model mainly serves only to increase sales of the Radeon 7900 XTX, because the price/performance ratio is paradoxically worse than that of the XTX. It’s the same issue with Nvidia where the cost of buying a lower model comes down, as opposed to previous generations where you often paid a large amount for a small performance boost.
The RTX 4070 Ti will possibly be priced the same as the 12GB 4080.
VGC magazine was able to get images of two versions of the upcoming RTX 4070 Ti card, namely the versions from PNY. At the same time, the company accidentally revealed the main characteristics that confirmed what they had been talking about for a long time – it would be a renamed RTX 4080 12 GB, which was canceled about two months ago. The card should offer 7680 CUDA cores with a frequency of 2310 MHz and a boost up to 2640 MHz, as well as 12 GB of GDDR6X video memory and a 192-bit bus.
Then the disturbing news came from Wccftech magazine. It was generally assumed that the 4070 Ti would cost less than the mentioned smaller version of the 4080, but this may not have been the case. Journalist Usman Pirzada claims that two sources have already confirmed to him the MSRP that Nvidia wants to set, which is $899, the same as the canceled 4080. than three months later he released it again with the same features and price, only under a different label.
The RTX 4070 Ti is due to be unveiled at the beginning of the year at CES, with a release shortly thereafter.
Second confirmation received #NVIDIAThe MSRP for the RTX 4070 Ti is $899. If the scalable price to the MSRP delta online is maintained, users can expect this to be available at around $150 above the MSRP. 🤷♂️https://t.co/mnnYHUpZVc
