Paid Twitter verification helps spread fake news

It’s only been two weeks since the social networking site Twitter was bought by billionaire Elon Musk, but things are starting to change very quickly. The main innovation is the subscription to Twitter Blue, where, among other things, for $ 8 a month, the user receives a verification “whistle”, which previously was only for truly verified accounts, such as politicians, other public figures or large companies. Among them, of course, there are gaming ones, and from them we see that the obvious shortcomings of the new solution are already manifesting themselves.

It wasn’t until shortly after launch that fake accounts began to appear posing as different gaming companies. For example, we can mention the fake American Nintendo that shared an image of Mario with his middle finger up. The account was eventually banned, but in the meantime the tweet went viral, such as a screenshot shared by journalist Jason Schreier.

However, Valve also became a victim, posing as a “valvesotfare” account. He stated that the company will introduce a new platform the very next day. Fortunately, the account was blocked here too.

Unfortunately, there is no solution to the problem as such yet, there are more and more accounts that look like official ones, although they are not. In addition, Musk announced on Twitter that he will completely remove the old test whistles in the coming months, and only paid ones will remain. Therefore, we can only recommend that you be careful where you get your information from.
