In mid-September, we informed you about the speculation of Insider Gaming magazine, according to which Sony is preparing a new version of the PlayStation 5 console with a removable drive. Those speculations are now coming alive again thanks to The Leak website, which was first shared and updated by Insider Gaming, led by Tom Henderson.
The Leak claims in its article that the new version of the PlayStation 5 console will offer different look and more compact design. The console should also be lighter. According to the magazine’s sources, the console should also eliminate the need for a separate stand in a horizontal position. The Japanese company is reportedly trying to save on production and shipping costs by downsizing the console itself.
Console production start in the second quarter of next year. It should then reach the first customers during September. However, the release may be delayed for various reasons. Although The Leak does not mention a detachable mechanism, this innovation would make sense given the emphasis on saving space and weight. It is expected that the detachable mechanism will be sold separately, which may reduce the price of the console itself.
A leak from “theleak(dot)co” suggests that the PS5 Slim will be released in the third quarter of 2023.
I’m pretty sure it’s the PlayStation 5 I reported on earlier, as their production and release times match perfectly with the production and sales data I have. https://t.co/2rzlDrjYAb

The information of The Leak magazine was supplemented by Insider Gaming, stating that the new version will eventually will completely replace the existing PlayStation 5 version, which is due to end production in October next year. For this reason, it’s possible that the smaller PS5 won’t carry the Slim moniker like previous generations.
Insider Gaming mentions in conclusion possible appearance of the PlayStation 5 Pro, which should not be released until 2025. In any case, it should be noted that these are still speculations, not officially confirmed by anyone from Sony. In the video below, you can remember the presentation of the original and still current version of the PlayStation 5.
