PS5 is still lagging behind PS4. Interest in Plus is declining year by year

Sony Interactive Entertainment boasted of the financial report for the last months. From the results we find that the console prefix 5 does the same, but continues to lag behind the successful PS4, and the demand for PlayStation Plus subscriptions has been declining year after year.

From July to September this year, Sony shipped 3.3 million PlayStation 5 consoles to stores. Interestingly, this is the same number as a year ago. Thus, the company was unable to increase supplies. On the other hand, it was possible to keep them in the same quantity.

General PS5 hits 25 million units shipped, but behind the PS4. As of September 30, 2015, 29.4 million items have been reported shipped. Considering logistics issues, COVID-19, and a shortage of chips, the 4.4 million difference isn’t all that bad. But it’s clear that Sony has higher goals.

According to Sony interest in the PS5 does not subside, even after a price increase of 50 euros (1000 CZK). The outlook is also better in the case of the necessary materials. Restrictions eased, which allows you to produce more pieces. So the company should be sufficiently prepared for Christmas and not expect a drop in demand.

The cherry on top is that it took an average of 17.5 hours to sell 100,000 PS5 consoles in the US in September. Thus, there should be no problem in meeting the target set for this fiscal year. That equates to over 18 million PS5 units.

This quarter on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 62.5 million games sold. This is 13.9 million less than 76.4 million in the same period a year earlier. Digital sales accounted for 63%a year earlier it was 62%.

6.7 million titles sliced directly from Sony, down 900,000 units from the 7.6 million sold in the same period last year.

Where some see a problem declining interest in subscribing. The number of PlayStation Plus subscribers was 45.4 million. Compared to last year, a drop of 1.8 million. PlayStation Network noted 102 million monthly active userswhich is two million less than a year ago.

We remind you that in the summer, Sony launched a new form of PlayStation Plus, which is divided into three tariffs. However, unlike rival Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass, Sony will not be putting games on PS Plus on release day.

Despite all this, things are going well for Sony. Gaming & Online Services Segment Report for the quarter ended September 30, 2022 annual sales growth by 75.3 billion yen ($0.51 billion) to 720.7 billion yen ($4.87 billion), while operating income fell 10.7 billion yen ($0.07 billion) to 42.1 billion yen ($0.28 billion).

In its forecast for the full fiscal year ending March 31, 2023, Sony expects higher revenue due to exchange rates and an increase in PS5 sales revenue due to price increases, which will partially offset the decline in third-party game sales.

Let’s see how the expected will affect the results God of War: Ragnarokwhich comes out November 9 this year on PS5 and PS4.

In terms of hardware, Sony is gearing up for next year. PlayStation VR2 and controller Dual touch edge.
