The highly anticipated God of War Ragnarok game is slowly approaching. Our impressions came out today, which you can read here, and already in them you will find out that the game will give you a choice of several graphics modes on PS5. Then additional information was provided by Press Start magazine.
There are two main modes. The former prioritizes resolution and aims for native 4K at 30fps. The second is a performance mode that will offer 60fps in dynamic 4K resolution. So far, pretty standard settings, but that’s not all.
Two more modes are available, for which two conditions must be met: a display with support for 120 Hz and an HDMI 2.1 interface. First of all, the latter can be a problem, since it mostly only affects new TVs, it is almost never found on monitors. And it’s still not entirely clear why HDMI 2.1 is needed at all, because you don’t need to turn on VRR. But now to the important part.
If the conditions are met, you can enable the “High frame rate” item in the settings. If you combine it with resolution mode, native 4K and 40 FPS are waiting for you. If you turn on high frame rates in performance mode, you can expect up to 120 fps, although here it will probably not be completely stable, and VRR will still be essentially a necessity.
God of War Ragnarok releases November 9th for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
