Gotham Knights Is Ready For Steam Deck, Says Developer Warner Bros Montreal

A Gotham Knights developer praises the game on the Steam Deck despite reports of technical issues. In particular, gamers have seen a sharp drop in footage, so it seems surprising that a representative from Warner Bros. Montreal would approve of the release on Valve’s laptop.

The tweet comes from one of the Gotham Knights writers, mitch dyer, who says he keeps finding “stunning new animations” as well as “unique details and movements.” He concluded by saying that he really enjoys playing it on the Steam Deck.

We don’t know what settings Dyer is playing on, but the PC specs are pretty demanding and the console versions are locked to 30 frames per second. One problem is the noticeable drop in frames when passing through the titular city of Gotham. As such, it doesn’t compare to the best RPGs, at least in terms of performance.

Our Gotham Knights review shows that even when running on an Nvidia RTX 3070, the game sometimes struggles at 1080p despite medium settings. However, the one place where it’s not too picky is storage. At 45GB, it won’t require too much of your hard drive or SSD, unlike, say, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, which will require 72GB.

That said, Warner Bros Montreal will probably want to release some fixes. In that case, if you want to play it on a Valve handheld, getting a better Steam Deck SD card should solve the additional storage issues.

It’s perhaps understandable that Dyer wanted to support the game he helped create, but that goes against what others have noted. In fact, it would be surprising if it worked well on the Steam Deck, but at least it was a pleasant surprise. If you still want to play on PC, be sure to check the system requirements for Gotham Knights before purchasing.
