FromSoftware parent company chairman arrested

FromSoftware represents one of the most unfortunate Japanese gaming companies. She is loved both at home and in the West. That’s why I was intrigued when Tsuguhiko Kadokawa, the chairman of Kadokawa Corporation, was arrested. This is because it is the giant who owns FromSoftware. The reason for his arrest is an extensive bribery case related to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. In addition to him, Kadokawa CEO Toshiyuki Yoshihara and manager Kyoji Maniwa were also arrested. The bribe was to be 69 million yen, which is about 11.7 million Czech crowns. This amount was supposed to go to a member of the organizing committee of the Tokyo Games, Haruyuki Takahashi.

According to the Japan Times website, the reason for the bribe was an attempt to get his company to win the bid to become the official sponsor of the Tokyo Olympics. Kadokawa Corporation itself has made headlines on gaming sites in recent weeks when it entered into a $260 million share purchase deal with Sony and Tencent that is intended to allow FromSoftware to take over as a publisher of its games outside of Japan ( Elden Ring, Dark Souls). For a large corporation, this is a very unpleasant situation, which is sure to greatly tarnish its name in the long run. However, FromSoftware probably won’t be significantly affected.
