A new Half-Life mod invites you to try out Half-Life 2 with all the levels, assets, and characters looking back, as Valve’s iconic Steam FPS gets a strange new overhaul that almost makes it feel like a game entirely. different: a twisted variant of Half-Life 3, arriving from a parallel dimension.
Half-Life 2: Reflected sounds are relatively thin. It doesn’t transform any assets, add new content, or interfere with the Half-Life 2 story. All it does is flip levels horizontally, as if there’s a mirror of the same name right in the middle. For example, instead of leaving the train at the beginning of the game on the left side of the platform, you leave on the right. When you first exit City 17, instead of turning right, you turn left. It sounds simple, but after 18 years of playing and replaying Half-Life 2, the effect is downright nauseating.
Especially the scene where you first enter Kleiner’s lab boils in your stomach. Picture it in your imagination. You enter. On the right, Kleiner tries to persuade Hedy to go down the ventilation shaft; Right in front of you is a locker with an HEV suit. You’ve been here hundreds of times. Only now Kleiner is on the left and you enter from across the room, which means all the TV screens and computer banks are to the right of him. Half-Life 2: Mirrored, developed by modder NvC_DmN_CH, is now available for download from Mod DB. This comes as we learn a bit more about Half-Life 3 thanks to leaked outdated artwork, as well as new details about a possible Half-Life RTS from a Dota 2 dataminer.
