In Metal Gear Solid 5, Hideo Kojima’s iconic sandbox game, Stephanie Joosten plays Quiet, a mute sniper who accompanies Venom Snake on his missions across Afghanistan to defeat the mighty Sahelanthropus. However, in Wanted: Dead, a new sci-fi hack-and-slash coming to Steam later in 2022, her character is very different: she also serves as a game scene director, as she said in PCGamesN live at Gamescom. 2022 that she wanted to play a character that represented “the complete opposite” of Hush.

Drawing inspiration from the Bloodborne, Ninja Gaiden, and John Wick movies, Wanted: Dead is a challenging third-person action-adventure with a steep difficulty curve and plenty of fatalities. You’ve got a skill tree to build, AI companions to help you, and it’s all infused with a distinctive retro-futuristic VHS aesthetic. It’s larger than life, with crazy visuals and bold characters, but developer Soleil, creator of Valkyrie Elysium, also wants to tell a serious detective story set in the dark underworld of Hong Kong.

Joosten plays Vivienne, a former TV chef (who even has her own YouTube channel; you can check her out right now) turned Hong Kong police officer who teams up with the lead, Lt. Hanna Stone, and the rest of the crew. Hong Kong police. elite “zombie squad”. , for a week as they fight against mercenaries, gang members and the sinister Private Army. Joosten says that Vivien’s versatile nature and interests drew her to the game.

“She tried her hand at a variety of professions,” says Joosten, describing Vivienne, “one of which was a television chef. She is not her ideal career and eventually growing frustrated, she joins the Hong Kong police. The other characters are a little less chaotic, but Vivienne is more of a comedic character. She got a lot of inspiration from myself in real life. I have a lot of different interests, and I thought it would be nice to play a character who does a lot of different things.”

She is very different from Quiet, whose iconic image and style speak more to her character than her personality or actions. Having starred in one of the biggest games of the last ten years, Joosten says he was looking for a very different challenge.

“I feel like I really wanted to get away from that character in that game,” he explains. “Of course I love playing Quiet, but I think it’s actually quite the opposite and it’s fun to explore new areas in this game. Beneath all the violence and chaos, there’s actually a serious detective story in progress. I think that this seriousness will also attract you.
