AMD Noise Suppression now works on older graphics cards thanks to a driver mod. The unofficial tool offers backwards compatibility with previous generations of Radeon GPUs and Ryzen CPUs, which means it performs slightly better than the Nvidia RTX voice.
Created by Reddit user rysresolvext, the AMD Noise Suppression mod brings graphics card audio technology to older gaming PCs (via Videocardz). It uses a custom driver called “NimeZ” which is based on the latest Adrenalin 22.7.1 drivers. Simply put, the modified software bridges the gap between the Radeon RX 6000 and the GPUs of yesteryear, making it easier to support a modern new set of noise reduction tools.
The NimeZ drivers in question appear to be compatible with Terascale, GCN, and Polaris-Vega-Navi GPUs, the first of which appeared more than a decade ago. So even if your team has to stand in a rocking chair and knit woolen sweaters, you can benefit from AMD noise cancellation.
As with all gaming PC software and hardware modifications, it’s best to proceed with caution. Dealing with forced drivers and features can void existing warranties, even if the GPUs in question are older than many house cats. Some pre-RDNA 2 GPUs would also suffer from buzzing, an illogical symptom given the noise reduction goal.
Of course, you may not have to extract features from your existing GPU, as current-gen AMD Radeon and Nvidia GeForce options keep getting cheaper. RDNA 3 and RTX 4000 are also just around the corner, so choosing the best graphics card could be a viable option in the near future. That said, if you’re in a budget building or just a budget-conscious gamer, this AMD Noise Suppression solution will help open the door to modern gaming PCs.
